Visiting Chicago

I finally got a chance to go home for a long weekend. I thought that I would get to go home a day early but the weather kept me in Boise for an extra night. I couldn't wait to get home, waking up for the flight at 4 am wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. When I arrived at the gate and looked around I thought of a great idea, one that I will be featuring on this blog. Many families were saying their goodbyes, or teens sleeping waiting for the flight to be called, or the elderly man on his way to visit his dying mother (i had a special bond with him). Each of them had a unique story to tell and a photograph to be taken. I didn't take any on this trip, as much as I wanted to. But from now on I will be.
I hope to go home more often, and when I wait in the airports I see how lonely it really can be. Waiting to go home. The couple that really made me think of this idea was a military man and his wife. She clung to him so tight as tears rolled down her face. As brave and strong as he is, I could see the fear in his eyes, the sadness that he had to leave her. It is those stories I hope to tell.
I don't want to post about work or my personal life (as interested as you are in it all), I want to turn this into something meaningful.
And maybe every once and awhile I'll give you a little update about what's going on here in Boise. Until my next trip...best to you all

November 2009 Sweeps

I made it through my first day of sweeps. I might not have done the best job, but I did the best job I knew how to do. I am excited to learn but today was a day full of breaking news.

It started out pretty slow, we had some bad sweeps stories, but that's not my call. Just before 5 the scanners went crazy. A crane working on the highway rolled over and seconds later a man robbed a bank and then a PIT manuver was used to stop him.

I had help...but the show went on at six with a live shot and a great story. I was over a minute forty heavy but after killing...a lot of stories I was right on time. And then went ahead and did it all over again at 6:30.

Today was one of those days that I wished I could come home to someone. Sit around and watch Grey's while drinking a glass of wine and talking about the day (on commercials of course). It's hard to not have human contact with someone (the man) after a day like today. After a week like the last two.

This weekend mom is coming and we'll be making soup and going shopping...photos to come!

Kitten or no Kitten??

I'm thinking about getting a kitty. I don't know that mom and dad will be happy about that...but I want a little buddy. Although it's not like they last a year. It's a 20 year commitment...I wish I had more input. I wish it wasn't just my decision...but isn't she cute!

On-air

First day of a six day week. Reporting. I am still a little shakey over the 15 seconds I was on air, and yet I can't wait to do it again. There is something about the rush of it all. It's exciting and new and...easy. At least here it is. When I remember back to the 12 hour days I was pulling at the last station this is a piece of cake. Back in Iowa, not only was it in the middle of nowhere...but I was doing 3 VOSOT's and a package. Plus I was writing and editing and shooting all of it. Now I know today was an unusual day, but everything was already done. The story was pre-shot and all I need to do is write and voice the package. I'm already done. I know that I should look back on my time in Iowa and be thankful that I was taught to work under pressure...but no one in this business should be under pressure like that.
That's why I'm thankful that this part of my life is going so smoothly right now. And as I say that, I hold my breath a little. I know that things could get rough. But I'm learning and I'm loving what I'm learning, and the people that are teaching me are probably some of the best I've seen in quite sometime.
Being on air isn't easy after being kicked off...but I got right back in there and I must say...I kicked some ass! haha
Now...I just have to figure out how to train my voice to be a little lower, I kinda sound like a little girl.
Better get back to the ten pm show!

I'm getting the hang of it. It's all really enjoyable and the people have been really great. I actually like my job. Who would have thought? This weekend I have to work, but I plan on having coffe with the other Megan and maybe I'll even work out! (I really need to do that) And of course I'll be going to the farmer's market Saturday morning.

I am getting a little lonely. I want someone to come home to. All of the people at work are married and it's hard to know that while they get to go home to a loved one, I'm going home and making myself dinner. Don't get me wrong, I will relish in the time by myself. Hopefully in a few years I won't get to have time like this. Then I'll miss it. I hope I get the chance to miss this.

Mountains and a Movie

The mountain terrain in Wyoming was probably the toughest part of the whole trip. The roads were winding and steep. At one point we weren't sure the care was going to make it up the mountain but once we were at the top, the views were amazing!
Winding into Utah was a little less exciting. Our trek through Utah wasn't long. I was surprised there weren't as many hills and mountains, and there wasn't a whole lot of green either. We stopped to get gas in small town with an adorable little Cafe. The town consisted of two small Cafes and a gas station, that's it! We took the food to-go and hit the road again.
Getting into Idaho seemed a little greener. Must have been the potatoes and onions. There were farms all along the highway.
When were about 30 miles outside of Boise, we were looking for some neighborhoods or any other sign of life...none to be found. We didn't see anything until we got into Boise city limits.

We are finally in Boise! After a lot of mountains and a tan line from my sunglasses we cruised in at about 5:45 pm, headed for the apartment to take a look and then to a hotel. We didn't get to look at the inside of the apartment, (the leasing office was closed) but from the outside it looks pretty private. There is a creepy guy on the first floor apartment, right next to the steps...Hopefully he just looks creepy, but is actually a really nice guy. The tree outside my deck needs to be trimmed a little, but at least it will be quiet.
Tomorrow we are going to get keys to the new place, and I'll be able to see the inside for the first time! Since the truck with all of my stuff doesn't get in until Monday, I'll have to do a little shopping. I'll need silverware, soup pot, clothes for work...this could be a fun shopping trip (like shopping isn't always fun)!

For tonight we are staying at the Double Tree with the delicious chocolate chip cookies! When we got here Mom and I went down to have a smoothie by the pool. The weather is beautiful out here, sittin' in the warm sun really wore use out. After a nice hot shower and comfy PJ's we are ready for a good movie!

Rock Springs, WY

We've stopped in Rock Springs for the night. It was a full day of driving through beautiful Wyoming, desolate but beautiful. I wasn't sure what was ahead (as far as mountains) and driving it at night didn't sound thrilling. See, to drive through the mountains with my mother is rough enough, let alone it being dark and me being tired.
Rock Springs might be in the middle of nowhere, but it is a very cute town. We grabbed some dinner and turned on the tube. Couldn't miss the finale of America's Got Talent!

6 hours 52 minutes / 482.44 miles to Boise! We should be in at 3pm if we leave in the next hour...better get ready!
